As I’m writing this, the Israeli Navy is storming ships of the Global Sumud Flotilla. In an unprecedented The fleet is near the Greek island of Crete, hundreds of nautical miles from Israel, and Israeli speedboats have already fired warning shots at one of the vessels roughly 80 to 100 nautical miles south of Kalamata, Greece. This is international waters. This is piracy.
This is the largest civilian flotilla ever assembled to challenge the siege on Gaza. 58 vessels carrying people from across the world : doctors, lawyers, war crimes investigators, journalists, and ordinary humans who refused to keep watching a genocide in silence. Organizers say Israeli soldiers in military speedboats approached their boats pointing lasers and semi-automatic assault weapons, ordering participants to the front of the boats and onto their hands and knees. Unarmed civilians. Forced to kneel. In international waters. By a foreign military that has no jurisdiction there whatsoever.
Last September, the Sumud Flotilla was intercepted about 70 nautical miles off the Gaza coast. This time Israel didn’t even bother with the pretext of a “blockade zone.” They’re attacking ships closer to mainland Europe than to Palestine. That tells you everything about who actually controls the Mediterranean and whose laws actually apply. The “rules-based international order” only exists when it’s convenient for empire. The second civilians try to deliver medicine to starving children, the warships come out.
Don’t let this disappear. The blackout is already starting communications jammed, signals cut, the same playbook as every flotilla before this one. Watch the video. Share it everywhere. Follow @gbsumudflotilla. Demand your representatives say the word “piracy.” Our brothers and sisters are out there in the dark right now with guns pointed at them for the crime of trying to feed Gaza. The least we can do is refuse to look away.
