While U.S. officials lecture the world about “democracy” countries like Cuba remain under decades-long economic siege that is starving their population. This has always been the playbook. Economic pressure as a political weapon, which is then blamed on the economic system of the country itself.
That’s why I’m going to Havana with over 100 other American activists organized by CODEPINK to get well-needed medical aid, school supplies, and food. But this is not just about aid. I’m going to understand the Cuban people, hear their story, and learn how we can better help them. The least the Cuban people deserve is to be heard by Americans whose government is currently engaging in collective punishment against their entire population.
