Capitalism itself is not the problem. If someone has extra eggs, potatoes, bricks….. people will barter, pay. That is not toxic. But for at least 25 years a Toxic form of Capitalism has been much more open to view. Offshore Corporations are its backbone and they are in many aspects of our lives. So in my country, we have convicted rapists, etc, released early from Prison to make way for Peace Protestors to be held for up to 2 years before trial. The criminals themselves are baffled, some upset, by this madness! But we have had war after engineered (?) war, from which these outside the Law Corporations have made eye watering profits. These now ‘respectable’ groups environmentally trashed vast areas in some African countries drilling for oil. They moved on to try to filtch minerals needed for technology, only to find anger and resistance had grown. Newly formed democracies started to say ‘No’ to appalling exploitation (and that was mostly by the West, by far). Now these Corporations are increasingly evidently fouling up & exploiting essential services in the West, - e. g. water, and increasingly flakey WiFi and service programs. We have had corruption since the dawn of man, it is part of humanity. This DEGREE Of CORRUPTION is something entirely new in living memory. Within Democracies, Political foes are almost teaming up, many accepting ‘donations for Influence’, bypassing democracy but using its taxes. Real Opposition is too often an endangered group, sometimes literally. The openness of the corruption, the expected impunity for privileged groups, the vicious targeting of others, - this is really abnormal. Famous philosophers and social economists suggested an uncontrolled mega Corruption would see us walk into a New form of Autocratic Feudalism, aided by technology to control the population. Corruption, Corporations, Cults, - of those C’s Healthy Capitalism is not the problem. Its invasion by the the others and greed beyond all human sense? That is. We are in such trouble. All good people, across humanity, must push back relentlessly, - or heaven help our young people.
