Wow. I'd been talking about the parallels between this company, who hijacked JRR Tolkien's idea of, and term Palantiri, and the actual book "The Silmarillion." However, now that I've followed the I've read the letter written by former employees, attempting to blow the whistle (whose link the author provides), I cannot believe how much of a parallel there actually is.
Peter Thiele is basically replicating the folly of Morgoth, his theft and corruption of the Silmarilli (in the book "The Silmarillion") and later Sauron's theft and corrupt usage of the Palantiri; the seven stones that were used for communication and sight--both through space and time, in the book.
It's too bad, that Thiele et. al., never paid attention to Tolkien's words of wisdom and of warning. Or they did, and chose the role of the villains, maybe foolishly figuring they could succeed where Morgoth and Sauron did not. I'm quite certain Tolkien would not agree, and may even laugh at such a foolish notion. As what these idiots don't seem to ever get into their thick skulls, is that when choosing such a path, both "success" and failure lead to failure. But greed renders them blind, hubris renders them deaf, and power renders them dumb--they can't help it.

This is the problem of government surrendering power to corporations, made exponentially more dangerous with rise of these tech companies that have unhindered access to so much of our data. There is no industry requiring more guardrails that these tech industries; even more so than the energy and financial sectors, maybe even more than the military sector-- though all are connected, and all extremely dangerous, when left without oversight.
But now, everything is flipped on it's head; they have near complete transparency to the public--a place they shouldn't--while THEY hide and render themselves opaque to the public.
It would seem, that we only divorced the church, to then to get remarried to the Corporation. These entities need to be seperated--and here I begin to feel like a broken record. If power isn't restored to the public, it won't take long before our specie falls to calamity and, at best, near extinction; as these entities are akin to a black hole or locusts, when it comes to resources, and they wreck all things essential for life. In this sense, the seperation is obviously best for everyone, including themselves. However, the "ruling elite" are far too inebriated on wealth and power to ever see or understand this, and humans, are not good at relinquishing power--particularly those greedily seek it--unless they are made to. As no matter how obvious the problems are, they will continue to double down--like "gambleholics."
People must rise and resist in every way or shape possible; As the people must take back what they had let slip, through passivity. We are fast approaching the time when we could be confident in that we have nothing left to lose. I would advise action before reaching that critical point.
